“Using an E-bike was a whole new experience and so much easier than I expected”
Growing up in the country I was bought up on mountain bikes and have many memories pedalling the huge hills of Dorset which my legs never forgave me for! I’m now more of a casual cyclist who you’ll catch cruising along city streets rather than down dirt tracks, but I have been convinced to give it another go after trying out an e-bike.
After a morning getting to know the Bristol team, they set me up on a CUBE Kathmandu – in a beautiful matte blue may I add. Despite my initial hesitation at the bikes weight, they showed me how to navigate the bike with ease using it’s walk along feature, giving me the confidence to go out and give it a proper go.
The moment I hopped on, the first thing I noticed was how comfortable the seat was and that my back didn’t feel hunched over – something I personally am not a fan of. The team listened to my cycling preferences and found a frame that suited my needs.
My expectation was that the motor would take a while to kick in, but I was wrong. Pushing off and cycling away was a breeze which got me really excited for the rest of the ride. Before I left, the team challenged me with climbing Elm Lane, a road of 25% incline and I didn’t even break a sweat!
My favourite part of using an e-bike was being able to choose the amount of energy I wanted to exert. Rather than being subjected to battling hills, I was able to choose the amount of assistance I wanted and while feeling like I was getting some exercise.
The experience has reignited my love for cycling and I am going to buy myself an e-bike soon. The bike gave me the freedom to explore routes I would previously avoid because of inclines and this reason alone has me convinced to make the switch.
I came back to the shop with a glow and an e-bike smile.
